I have to be honest here, I don’t know very much about foundation.
I wear it every day, use it to make my skin look a little fresher, cover up any blemishes and maybe reduce any dark circles under my eyes. Difficult sometimes, even with a good nights sleep.
There’s a part of me that feels like we should to some extent embrace our natural skin, so i’ve always been drawn to use more natural, light foundation.
I say always, I’ve not tried many different foundations (you’ll find out just how little further down) but I know i’d always like something a little lighter.
I’ve never had terrible skin, I get the monthly mountain on my chin or patch of pimples on my cheek but most of the time I’m pretty lucky. And I guess that’s why I don’t feel the need to wear a really thick layer of foundation.
The first foundation I ever purchased was the No7 Essentially Natural foundation, and until about 2 months ago, it was the only foundation i’d ever bought. (Ludicrous, I know) I was pretty young when I bought it, and I basically just went to the counter in boots and asked someone to point me in a direction … any direction at all, just as long as it was towards a foundation.
I had no idea what I should buy. What would look good, what would suit my skin, or even what type of skin I had.
So luckily for me, the Essentially Natural no7 foundation suited me perfectly.
It’s light, easy to put on, and really does feel natural.
I’ve switched between shades depending on whether i’ve been on holiday or not, but for about 7 years i’ve stayed with the same foundation.
Recently, I’ve started getting a bit of an oily forehead. ANNOYING.
My foundation would last until about lunchtime, after when it would decide to transform itself into a very shiny mirror. So I decided it might be time for a change … finally.
Now I know i’m no foundation expert, BUT I thought that might be why it’d be good for me to write this post. I’m just a normal gal, blindly wandering through the weird and wonderful world of foundation.
No technical gibberish or fancy words, just simple pros and cons. ‘Coz surely thats how any sensible adult makes choices?
So, if you’re anything like me and don’t really know much when it comes to foundation, I’ve done a little comparison between two of the No7 options.
I love the brand, it’s well priced, has some great products and there are ALWAYS vouchers to use. I also know that my skin reacts well to their products so thought it would be a good idea to stay with the same brand.
Just as I did about 7 years ago, I recently went to the no7 counter and explained my situation. I literally just told the makeup artist what i’d been using, why I wanted to change, and what sort of thing I wanted, and she pointed me in the right direction.
She suggested the No7 Stay Perfect foundation. I’d explained I still wanted it to be natural looking, I think there’s nothing worse than a thick layer of foundation and a dodgy orange line under the chin.
Now i’ve tried both, here’s what i’ve learnt:
Price – £10.00
Coverage – Light/ Medium (very even)
Skin Type – All skin types (but I feel like it’s quite hydrating, so it might be best for dry skin rather than oily mirrors like me)
Lasting Time – 4 hours until a powder refresh, but the base does stay on until the end of the day
Bottle Lasting Time – 3 months (depending on how thick you layer it on)
Bottle Form – Squeeze
Application – Very easy to apply, it feels soft and smooth over your face
Scent – No particular smell
SPF – 15
Price – £15.00
Coverage – Medium
Skin Type – All skin types
Lasting Time – This usually lasts the whole day whilst I’m at work, so approximately 8 hours until i’d want to powder
Bottle Type – Pump
Application – Smooth and even (you don’t have to use too much to get the right coverage)
Scent – None
SPF – 15
Shades – 17
If you’re someone who doesn’t like to feel like you’re even wearing foundation, i’d recommend either of these. Although the Essentially Natural foundation, is like it says, very natural, they are both so lightweight and breathable.
They both provide a really lovely even coverage for a bright completion, and do well at covering up pores.
For me, i’ll be sticking with the Stay Perfect foundation, as it gives me that little bit of extra coverage I need.
Bye bye shiny forehead!
