So I know what you might be thinking, isn’t it obvious? We know kindness is important. But the thing is, I feel sometimes we get so caught up in our routines and ways of life, we forget to focus on little things like kindness.
Since entering into the blogging world, i’ve experienced kindness in multiple forms, and it’s something I absolutely love about this community. There is such a support network and people are constantly willing to boost others up, for the most part anyway!
And it is so important. In the blogging world, it’s so easy to be kind. A simple retweet, comment, or a message of support can really mean a lot to someone, and I know that from personal experience.
But what about when it comes to the real world? Do we really spread enough kindness?
For me the answer is no, and that’s not to say I think we’re all unkind, horrible people, but I just think there is so much more we can do. There is no limit to kindness, and as my favourite saying states; Kindness is free!
And it’s true! It costs absolutely nothing to be kind.
Before I go any further, I just want to let you know what the aim of this post is. I’m simply hoping to inspire, motivate, and reinforce how important small acts of kindness can be.
I want to share some acts of kindness i’ve experienced lately, which have inspired me to write this post.
Flowers for a friend
At the end of 2017, I was having a pretty tough time at work. I wasn’t enjoying it, and I wasn’t feeling myself. I was struggling with a few aspects, and it was really getting me down.
And the thing is with your job, is it can take over your life. If you work full time, you spend the majority of your day there, and when you’re not happy, it can effect your wellbeing SO much.
I was working from home for a day as I wasn’t feeling very well, and I got a knock on the door. I answered and the post man handed me a package. I opened the package to find i’d been sent the most beautiful bunch of flowers. I was totally overwhelmed and surprised, and nearly shed a tear when reading the card. A good friend from work had sent me flowers because she knew I was feeling down.
It meant and unbelievable amount to me! I couldn’t believe that she had been so thoughtful, gone out of her way, and sent the flowers to cheer me up. It was such a beautiful act of kindness.
Support in all forms
I’ve recently been unbelievably proud of my best friend. Someone very close to her has been diagnosed with cancer, and from the moment she found out cancer was even a possibility, she has been there for her in every single way possible.
From driving her to appointments every day, to staying over at her house to comfort her, she has done everything possible to support her through this difficult time.
Without any shadow of a doubt, she stepped up to the mark. She’s constantly there to try and make things positive, and she even manages to make her laugh in the waiting rooms.
That level of support is kindness taken to a whole other level, and it has made me so proud.
This is something more generic i’ve been noticing, which I mentioned at the beginning of this post.
Don’t get me wrong, I know there is a lot of shit around on the internet, and it can be horrible place. But at the moment i’m focussing on the good i’ve seen.
I’ve been connecting with so many new people online recently, whether it’s through Instagram, blogging, Twitter, or whatever, and it’s been totally fabulous. It’s been so amazing to see how willing people are to offer support.
For instance if ever there’s a tweet and someone is mentioning they’re having a bad day or a hard time, guaranteed there will be at least three replies with people reaching out to offer some sort of support.
Even if it’s just sending a love heart, it is so lovely to see people taking time to show they are not alone.
Every single one of these kindness acts have inspired me to spread a little more. I think it’s important to look out for these things, and remember that actually, kindness does exist! Sometimes we just need to think more about it to notice it’s there, and there’s always more we can do.
So my idea is this. Every single day, I want to make the conscious effort to be kind. Something a little extra than what i’d usually do.
Whether it’s giving to charity, or giving someone an extra long hug, i’m trying to make a little more effort.
Have you noticed any acts of kindness recently? I’d love to hear them!
