The Autumn Tag

October 14, 2018

I know everyone is probably sick of hearing it but isn’t Autumn just GREAT.

The atmosphere, the snacks (obv), the fresh air, the cosy evenings. I love it all. Coincidentally this time last year when I was just a new born in the blogging world I wrote a post about why I love autumn which you can read here.

But i’m here on different autumnal business, the very lovely Abbie from has nominated me for The Autumn tag! You can read her full post here, where she talks all things autumnal goodness including an incredible sounding jacket potato and her dream autumnal destination.

Thank you Abbie for the nomination, here goes!

What signifies the start of Autumn for you?

It has to be the colour of the trees changing along with the fresh mornings. There’s usually one day at the start of Autumn where I step out of the door first thing, stand there for a minute, look around, smell the air, feel the low sun on my face, feel a slight chill in my lungs and that’s it. I know it’s started. At that moment I feel a little shudder of excitement for the festive months to come.

What is your favourite Autumn scent?

When it comes to scented candles and seasonal fragrances I don’t really know my stuff. Usually I just go for whatever is on offer in Tesco but I try to choose something cosy like cinnamon or orange to really get me in the autumnal mood.

hot chocolate and friends

What is you favourite Autumn colour?

Probably burnt orange. I have a jumper I bough from the H&M sale like three years ago for £3 (incredible right) and it just signifies autumn for me. When that jumper comes out everyone knows autumn had arrived.

Are you a fan of a PSL (pumpkin spice latte) ?

This is probably going to spoil my ‘basic bitch’ autumn attitude but I have never had a PSL. Maybe this year is the year I take the final step…

What is your favourite Autumn drink?

Alcoholic: Gin and Tonic. Non Alcoholic: A huge hot chocolate with whipped cream,  marshmallows, chocolate sprinkles, a chocolate flake, with a side of a low burning wood fire.

What’s your favourite coffee shop and their drink of choice?

It’s not really fit for Autumn but I recently had a Costa Mint Choc Chip Frostino and it was a little cup of heaven. So creamy and minty and just delicious.

Apple pie or Pumpkin pie?

I don’t think i’ve had pumpkin so let’s go apple. Last year we did buy 11 pumpkins so did a fair bit of pumpkin cooking. There was soup, cookies, tarts and more

What TV show, new or old are you looking forward to in the next few months?

I can’t think of any specific TV shows I’m looking forward to, I think i’m more excited for the movies! I like to start off with maybe some of the Harry Potter movies to get me really cosy. Rain outside, hot chocolate in hand, duvet, and HP on TV. Perfection!

What is your favorite Autumn fashion trend?

It’s got to be cosy jumpers. I’ve bought a couple this season I’m absolutely in love with! I’m writing up an autumnal Instagram look book with all the links, coming very soon!

What is your favourite comfort food to enjoy in the colder months?

I’m a sucker for autumn/ winter party food. Hand be a bag of sausage rolls and mozzarella dips and i’m happy. Ohh and maybe a side of crisps and dip!

What is your favourite Autumn activity?

Last year for the first time we we went to a pumpkin patch which as you can imagine I absolutely loved. We had a whole day of Halloween activities, you can see all the details here. I’d say baking as well is one of my favourite all year round activities but baking little autumn treats is one of my favourite things to do, especially on a rainy day!

Are you a fan of horror movies?

No. Absolutely not. I’d like to try getting into them a bit more…maybe. (hides behind pillow at mention of it)

Do you ever do anything fun for Halloween?

We’ve kinda started a new tradition with a group of our friends where we all get together and do Halloween activities like the pumpkin picking and calving, then we eat a shit tonne of snacks and attempt to watch scary movies. I’m also head of the social team at work so we’ve organised to decorate the office and do a scary biscuit decorating competition which I’m super excited for! We’re also dressing up at work which will be a laugh!

What was your favourite part about halloween as a child?

I think it was Trick or Treating which now scares the life out of me. Why is it a thing?! Knocking on strangers doors asking for sweets? Now that is terrifying.

Are you a bigger fan of Bonfire night or Halloween?

Ohh difficult question…I love Halloween for the fun activities but there’s something so special about bonfire night. Wrapping up warm and watching the fireworks with friends then heading home for some warm soup and mulled wine. Ideal! I also think bonfire night is super romantic.

Where is your dream destination to visit in the Autumn?

I think New York. Either in autumn or at Christmas would be amazing. But also somewhere like Greenland or Iceland could be cool.

Do you always forget about the clocks going back?

Yes. And then it happens and it’s dark ALL THE FRICKIN TIME.

When do you usually start preparing for Christmas?

I start to get ideas usually around this time, but the decorations and the Christmas movies can’t start until December happens. That’s when things fully kick in! I wrote a post last year about how I decorated my flat for Christmas which is here. After Halloween and Bonfire night I start to get really excited…
