It’s here people, the time has come…I’M WRITING MY FIRST FESTIVE POST OF THE YEAR!
Can you believe it’s almost the end of November and I’m only just writing up something Christmasy?
No, me either!
For my entire life I have absolutely adored the festive period. I just love everything about it! The family time, the cosy evenings, the reunions, the food, and everything else that comes with it.
It’s the time of year when absolutely anything goes. Want chocolate for breakfast? Go for it – it’s Christmas! Want to stay in your PJs all day? Go for it – it’s Christmas! Want to drink an entire bottle of prosecco by yourself and perch under the Christmas tree? GO FOR IT – IT’S CHRISTMAS!
It really is the most wonderful time of the year…
Sorry, just had to drop that in there – what kind of festive blog post would it be without it?!
Anyway, if you’re struggling to get festive this year I’m sharing my top tips on how to really get into the mood:
Explore a Christmas market
In almost every town now you can find some sort of Christmas market. Whether it’s a couple of stalls blaring out Christmas tunes and selling mince pies or a whole town square filled with festive treats, theres usually somewhere to wander around.
Wrap yourself up in your biggest coat, dig out the hat and gloves and go and explore your nearest Christmas market. Just being around the people there and taking in all the festive sights is a sure way to start feeling festive, especially if you treat yourself to a hot mug of mulled wine.
Christmas markets are also great for finding unique Christmas prezzies, so it’s productive too!
Here’s a list of the top 12 Christmas markets in the UK, in case you were looking for somewhere new to explore.
Watch a Christmas movie
I don’t usually start watching Christmas movies until December, but after that point it’s just go, go, go.
I’m talking Elf on 24/7 with Christmas film crammed movie nights every evening. Get your popcorn, your hot chocolate, and your duvet and snuggle up to your favourite Christmas movie. It’s bound to get you in the mood!
If you’re lacking for Inspiration I’ve got a post sharing the top Christmas films right here (in my opinion anyway!).
Blare out some Christmas music
Got a commute to work? It’s time to crack out your Now Christmas CD or your favourite Christmas playlist and blare out those tunes. I can tell you now there is nothing better than starting your day with some festive music.
You will struggle to find a Christmas song that doesn’t make you feel jolly, and if you do, give it a skip coz it’s not worth your time!
I actually love the Ariana Grande Christmas album, Christmas Kisses, so if you’re a pop lover looking for something new I’d give this a little listen.
Eat some Christmas goodies
I’m a huge foodie, so one of my absolute favourite things about Christmas is all the incredible food.
- Mince pies
- Hot chocolate
- Pigs in blankets
- Mulled wine
The list could go on…if you’re lacking in Christmas spirit just treat yourself to any one of these things and I guarantee you’ll start to get a little festive flutter in your tummy.
Plus who doesn’t love an excuse to eat food right?!
Here’s a recipe for an incredible looking hot chocolate, cinnamon and all.
Do some Christmas wrapping
One thing that always gets me super excited for Christmas day is wrapping presents.
Seeing all the bits I’ve collected for family and friends then wrapping them all up, bows and all gets me so excited! The great thing about this is you can combine all the above…go pick up some presents from a Christmas market, put a Christmas movie or music on in the background, eat a mince pie, drink a hot chocolate and go wrapping crazy.
That right there is the perfect little Christmassy evening.
How do you get in the mood for Christmas? I’d love to know!
