A beauty-full experience at the John Lewis Beauty Studio

December 17, 2018

How much of a luxury is getting your makeup done for you?

It’s relaxing enough just watching someone else do their makeup, or having their makeup done (please tell me I’m not the only one?), but getting the chance to have your own makeover by an expert is a thing of true luxury and relaxation.

Recently I had the chance to experience a one hour Beauty Confidential at the newly opened Beauty Studio at the John Lewis Cambridge store.

If you’re a makeup lover the beauty hall in the John Lewis Cambridge store is somewhere you must must must visit. It’s recently been given its own fabulous makeover and has become an absolute beauty lovers dream.

I’d almost describe it as the North Pole but instead of toys you have every beauty product you could ever imagine. If you were to use the Kira Kira app on a trip through the beauty hall you would almost be blinded by the glamour and glitz. It’s SO fabulous.

The Beauty Studio sits nicely tucked away but near enough to the beauty hall that you always have a glimpse of the products on offer, you know, for reference…(make sure that lipstick you love hasn’t gone anywhere).

How it works

On arrival I was greeted by the lovely Natalie, who first took my coat and then offered me a glass of fizz. Obviously there were alternatives but as it’s almost Christmas I thought, why not? As you can imagine at this point I already felt like a lady of leisure, and that just didn’t stop.

Natalie asked me all about my current skincare routine (or the lack of it), then proceeded to advise me on the best skincare products for my specific problem areas as well as products she personally loves and recommends.

Skincare products

Take The Day Off™ Cleansing Balm

Lancome Cleansing Milk

Clarins Double Serum

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream

Origins Ginzeng Eye Cream

My favourites were the Clarins Double Serum and the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream. They both made my skin feel silky smooth and had such a refreshing scent and feel. You also don’t need to use very much product at all so they would last for a long while.

Makeup products

Bobbi Brown Serum Concealer

Urban Decay Eye Potion Original

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette

Lancome Hypnose Mascara

Benefit Brow Zings

Benefit Gimme Brow 5

Rouge D’Armarni Matte – Pink 501

I fell absolutely in love with the Armarni lipstick and as part of the experience I was very kindly gifted my very own! That’s what I think is one of the amazing things about this experience, it’s redeemable against products so if you do fall in love with something you can take it home.

I have been struggling with my brows for a while now so Nathalie recommended the Benefit brow products. I’ve been recommended them so many times now so they’re absolutely on my list!

The Beauty Studio offers three different experience options:

The Beauty Fix

A free 20 minute consultation in which you can find the best product for a specific need. For instance if you need advice and a new brow product like I did, you can trial some of the products from across the beauty hall.

Beauty Masterclass

An hour long group session in which you can become a master in a certain area. Let’s say you want to nail the smokey eye? This session is perfect for you. It’s £15 but redeemable against products.

Beauty Confidential

An hour long 1-1 session where you can get advice on the best skincare routine to go with, the best makeup to use, and anything else you’re unsure about when it comes to beauty products. The session is £35 however is redeemable against products.

I left the Beauty Studio feeling so unbelievably glam which was amazing as I was heading straight off afterwards to shoot some photos around Cambridge.

What I think is amazing about this experience is that you get to experience a range of different brands. Rather than heading to one brands beauty counter and only trialing their products, you get to try a mix of what might work best for you. After all we all know that no one has only one single brand of makeup in their makeup bag…right?! I know mine has at least 23!

If you’re still stuck on what to get someone for Christmas, or just fancy treating yourself in the new year I really would recommend this experience. It’s perfect for someone like me who just kinda wings it through the big wide world of beauty products.

The number to book is 01223 222853.
