It’s been a little while since I wrote anything beauty related, and because recently I feel all my posts have been a little…deep (ish) I felt like now was a great time to put a stopper in that and talk about something a bit more light hearted.
Beauty isn’t something I often write about and I certainly wouldn’t call myself an expert, but something I know I always appreciate when deciding on beauty products is real words from real people.
I’d much rather read a 500 word ramble from Sally in Devon about her experience with brow products than a short website bio which has most likely been written by someone who hasn’t even come into contact with a product.
We don’t need an expert testimonial about a product we just need a few words from people who have tried and tested the product. And that’s the beauty of blogging – real words from real people.
Anyway, onto the good stuff. Here’s the low down of a few products I’ve recently introduced into my beauty routine and why I’d recommend you give them a go.
This Works: In Transit Skin Defence
(gifted) I’ll admit it, I’ve never really been massively loyal to certain brands when it comes to beauty products. Excluding my foundation which has always been Boots No7 (you can see the full details of my foundation choices here) I tend not to get too hung up on certain products. If I try something and it works for me, great, but I won’t be put off giving something else a try, especially if there’s a solid BOGOF offer I’m going for on certain products. Coz who can resist a bargain?
Recently I was contacted by a company called Hogies Online. Their overall mantra is that they sell top brands for a lower price than normal. Again, who can resist a bargain!? They very kindly sent me a few of the products they sell to try and one of them was the This Works, In Transit Skin Defence moisturiser.
It’s an anti-ageing daily moisturiser which also contains SPF 30 and I have to say I’m loving it. It’s relatively fragrance free and feels super soft on the skin. I use it each morning before I put on my makeup, it’s really refreshing and the SPF factor for me really is a win. Even if your foundation has some SPF in it I think it’s really important to get some extra protection from everyday sun.
This is the first time I’ve tried any This Works products and I’m really impressed, I’ve also heard amazing things about their pillow spray so maybe that’s next on the list?! Hogies Online have given me a discount code so if you’d like to order this or anything else from their site just click the link here and use the code ESTHER10.
Benefit: BrowZings and GimmeBrow
My eyebrows are bushy. Really big, really thick, and really bushy. Don’t get me wrong I know I’m very lucky to be blessed by the eyebrow gods with so much to work with, but this project requires a lotta maintenance.
Recently I decided it was time to up my eyebrow product game. If I was going to give my brows the love and care they so deserve they needed some decent product. As I so often do when it comes to beauty products I called upon my lovely Instagram followers to send through their recommendations. And there were so many, it was amazing! The top four most recommended were in the photos below.
Knowing Benefit products from previous use and loving them I decided to give their brow products a go first. They’re also one of the more affordable brands which is always important to me when choosing beauty products. I’ve been using a combination of the Benefit BrowZings and the GimmeBrow for a few weeks now and am LOVING them.
The GimmeBrow is perfect for filling in any gaps whilst the BrowZings gives a gorgeous, clear but subtle outline. Plus we all know how cute the Benefit packaging is.
Mac: Matte Lipstick – Whirl
I’ve been using Mac lipsticks for a good few years now and honestly, I’m yet to find another kind I like better. My absolutely go-to is the Mac Matte Velvet Teddy lipstick (basic I know). It’s fabulous for everyday wear and goes with almost anything.
My lovely Mum got me a new shade for Christmas, Whirl. It’s darker than Velvet Teddy, more like a pale red wine if you can image that. Either way I love it. I find the Mac Matte lipsticks so creamy, they keep my lips hydrated but they also do a pretty good job at staying put even after eating… which is obviously quite frequently.
I love this shade for everyday wear but also something a little darker for the evenings. Whilst I don’t find I always need a liner with these Mac lipsticks I’m looking to invest in the matching liner soon just to give it that perfect edge.
If you fancy having a look at this shade or any of the others you can find them here at a pretty reasonable price.
So there we have it! My very random collection of beauty products I’m loving at the moment.
